Robert Jacobs, PhD

Dr. Robert Jacobs is a Research Equine Nutritionist at Purina Animal Nutrition. Robert earned his BS and MS in Animal Sciences from the University of Florida where his research focused on the role of amino acid supplementation on uterine blood flow and fluid clearance during the estrous cycle. He completed his PhD in Equine Reproductive Physiology and Nutrition at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where his research investigated the role of omega-3 supplementation on the equine uterine environment and early pregnancy in obese, metabolically compromised horses. Robert has also conducted research related to equine exercise physiology and digestive physiology. His work has been  published in the Journal of Animal Science, Journal of Equine Veterinary Science, and the Journal of General and Comparative Endocrinology. In addition to his devotion to equine nutrition, he is passionate about equine reproduction and breeding.

 

Mike Jerina, MBA

Mike Jerina is Manager of Equine Research at the Purina Animal Nutrition Research Center. Mike guides the implementation and data collection for research projects that study growth and development, palatability and exercise physiology of the horse. He manages the quarter horse breeding program and  oversees general horse care of the 80 horses at the Purina Animal Nutrition Center.  Mike is the chairperson of the IACUC at the farm and manages a portion of Purina’s sponsorship program. Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science with a focus on equine reproduction from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and recently earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri, Saint Louis.
